This year’s Howick College SCP scholarship recipient announced

Southern Cross Partners has been based in Auckland’s Howick for more than 25 years. In that time, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed being a part of a thriving community and having the opportunity to give back where we can.

Each year we provide a scholarship to a deserving student at Howick College. All the students we interviewed this year were of the highest calibre, making it very tough to pick a winner.

After much deliberation, this year’s recipient is Erika Sawyers. Erika’s work ethic and achievements both in and out of school show her tenacity for life and we’re excited to see where she goes.

Erika has far too many achievements to list. A taster includes being a Howick College House Leader and Cultural Council Leader, obtaining merit and excellence endorsement in all NCEA subjects, and being in the top student band for physics, chemistry, mathematics, and social studies. Alongside her studies and extracurricular activities, Erika also has a part-time job and regularly volunteers in her community.

The four-year scholarship of up to $72,000 will go towards Erika’s studies at the University of Auckland, after accepting a fast-track offer. She will be doing a conjoint Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Logic and Computation degree with a Bachelor of Commerce in Management.

In addition to the full scholarship, we also awarded another deserving student with a one-off donation to help them with their studies. This donation went to Sophie Zaadstra.

Sophie is attending the University of Auckland and doing a conjoint Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Global Studies. Sophie is an outstanding student and is heavily involved in sport and community volunteering and is a standout leader in Howick College and her local community.

It’s our greatest pleasure to award scholarships and donations to Howick College students each year. We are so excited to see where Erika and Sophie go in life, and hope the funding sets them up for success.
