Get to know our investment team – Ross Latham
Our dedicated investment team works hard to ensure our investors have a great customer experience with SCP. In this edition of our Get to Know Our Investment Team series, we introduce you to Ross Latham, one of our fantastic Business Development Managers.
How long have you been with SCP and how did you come to join the team?
My working life started far from the financial services world. When I left school I became a truck driver, and it wasn’t long before I was an owner driver for a cartage company based in and around Auckland. In the years that followed we started up and sold many businesses, so my passion for helping others has been born out of an understanding of business, common sense and delivering successful outcomes.
I first heard of Southern Cross Partners back in 2013 when my wife Jennie started working as a BDM in the lending team. The company was growing, and the investment team were looking for more support. Jennie suggested I apply for the newly created Investment BDM role. She spoke so highly of Heather Kentsley, and the investment team already felt like family, so it was a pretty easy decision for me.
What do you do in your day-to-day role with SCP?
I am a small part of an incredible investment team that looks after your nest egg as if it were our own.
My role is in relationship management for our existing investors. I also help to onboard new investors, which involves educating them about our product, troubleshooting, online and phone support for any questions that our investors may have and some administration work.
Tell us more about your life outside of SCP?
Jen and I have just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary with a short Australasian cruise. Travel is our happy place, and we try to travel annually if we can.
I am keen on motorsports, love Aussie supercars and rallying, enjoy eating out and entertaining at home, cards/board games/reading and having friends and family coming to stay with us from around the country is always fun.
Quick fire five:
Favourite movie: It has to be The Castle - timeless dry Aussie humour. The best line from the movie is “Straight to the pool room”.
Favourite food: Pizza of any kind, any time. For breakfast, lunch or dinner. Hot or cold.
Favourite holiday spot: So many, but it’s hard to beat cruising in the Mediterranean (or cruising anywhere) and swimming in Croatia. Closer to home we also enjoy the Sunshine Coast.
Favourite band: The Rolling Stones.
